Varsity Sports Junior Zia Barr quali- fied for the girls’ Spring track State Meet of Champions in the Tri- ple Jump and earned First Team All County in the event. The boys’ basketball team had a historic year by win- ning back-to-back Group 3 State Championships. The team went on to play in the Tournament of Champi- ons, making it to the final four where they played a courageous and valiant game vs. the Patrick School, the team that would eventually be overall winner of the tournament. Ja’Quaye James and Leondre Washington II both earned First Team All County honors and Head Coach Jerome Smart was selected by the NJ.com and USA Today as the New Jersey Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year. Boys’ Volleyball Head Coach Jason McDonald, rallies his team to victory in an overtime third game. The softball team experienced the best start to their season with a 10-2 record. They qualified for both the County and State Tournaments. Ashley Sosa set a new school hitting record by recording 155 career hits. The girls’ bowling team had an outstanding year and completed the season with a 16-0 record. They placed first in the BNC National Division and the team qual- ified for the State Finals which were held in New Brunswick. Freshman Mia Aish received First Team All-County recognition. Swim Coach Matt Green re- ceived the Northeast Sectional and National Federation of High School Boys’ Swimming Coach of the Year recognition and was honored with an award at a luncheon at the Pine Manor in Edison, NJ. Students/athletes in the senior class collectively earned an overall 3.5 GPA. Seven out of the last 10 years the boys’ and girls’ swim teams have earned the highest swim team GPA’s in the state of New Jersey. Christian Pearson; football and track student/athlete was ap- pointed to the US Naval Acade- my. At the academy he will work towards a degree, play football and serve his country! The NJSIAA sportsmanship banner will be awarded to Teaneck High School in September. To earn the banner all athletic events had to have recorded zero disqualifications and ejections. Teaneck athletes played over 950 home and away games, and every game was played no matter the outcome with grace and dignity. Our athletes are true ambassadors. Two head coaches received Big North National League Coaches of the Year awards. Cross-Country coach Lauren Fowler and Bowling Coach Stephanie Baer. 7
