At Teaneck High School, if the a bsence isn’t reported, it is considered non-excused until a signed note is submitted to the homeroom teacher. Upon returning to school, a student must present a note signed by a parent, guardian or physician. This must include the student’s name, date(s) and reason for absence. According to Board of Education policy, excused absences include illness, approved religious holidays and/or death in the family. Students who are excused will be able to make up assignments and exams. Credit is not given for assign- ments missed during unexcused absences, but students who will be on vacation or visiting college/school campuses may make up work if prior approval has been granted by the school administrator. Board of Education policy specifically outlines penalties for high school students with excessive absences.
