At the kindergarten, elementary and middle schools, if the
absence hasn’t been reported, the nurse will call the parent
later in the day. At Teaneck High School, if the a bsence isn’t
reported, it is considered non-excused until a signed note is
submitted to the homeroom teacher.
Upon returning to school, a student must present a note
signed by a parent, guardian or physician. This must include
the student’s name, date(s) and reason for absence.
According to Board of Education policy, excused absences
include illness, approved religious holidays and/or death in
the family. Students who are excused will be able to make
up assignments and exams. Credit is not given for assign-
ments missed during unexcused absences, but students who
will be on vacation or visiting college/school campuses may
make up work if prior approval has been granted by the
school administrator. Board of Education policy specifically
outlines penalties for high school students with excessive
absences.
