CLASSROOM POLICIES CLASSROOM POLICIES TOILETING Children must be independent with toileting without the use of a pull up or diaper to attend District 622 Preschool. Children with an IEP are exempt from this requirement. BACKPACKS We request that each day children bring a backpack labeled with their name. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD’S BACKPACK IS LARGE ENOUGH TO FIT A SHEET OF PAPER. This will help keep his/her belongings in one place and provide a safe way for the school to send important communications, artwork and newsletters home with your child. Please check the backpack every day for messages. SNACKS Snack time not only provides an energy boost to children, but it is a time to socialize with peers and develop new skills. At Beaver Lake and Gladstone, bulk snack is dependent on parent donations. You are welcome to donate classroom snacks, but this is not a requirement. Your child’s teacher will provide an opportunity for you to sign up for classroom snacks if you are interested. We will be sending home a list of healthy snack ideas, which will also take into account the food allergies of some students. If your child has food allergies we invite you to send a snack that will be appropriate for your child. Snacks must be store bought. Children drink water with their snack. PRESCHOOL ATTIRE Our motto is “Dress for Mess”. Children should be comfortably dressed for play. They will be exposed to many kinds of materials including paint, finger paints, mud, water and clay. If your child wears a dress or skirt, please send your child with shorts underneath. Children enjoy themselves more if they can experiment without fear of soiling their clothes. During class we encourage children to wear tennis shoes that they can take on and off on their own. We discourage boots, slippers, cowboy boots or slippery soled shoes, because they often hinder the child’s movement and performance in many of our class and gym activities. Accidents do occasion- ally happen, so we ask that you send a complete change of clothing (label each item) for your child. PETS VISITING CLASSROOMS We do not allow familie s to bring in pets in the preschool classrooms. Animals in the classroom can cause health problems for both animals and students. We want to eliminate any potential safety hazards and potential bites that could occur. Many kids have allergies, which can be exacerbated by animal dander. Dangerous bacteria such as salmonella can be spread by handling reptiles and frogs, and hamsters and other rodents can carry transmittable diseases as well.
