After looking back at this entire experience , there have been some funny moments that made my process a bit trickier . From accidently learning the wrong fitness routine to discovering a typo on my interview time , I thought the universe was against me . I ’ ve learned that no matter the hardships one faces ( like learning a fitness routine in one night or setting up my interview zoom with wicked speed ) there ’ s always resilience .
But what about confidence ? Even before I was announced the state winner , I watched youtube videos of past DYW finalists ' self-expression answers . I thought to myself , “ I could never do that , be poise and speak in front of a huge audience .” I ’ m so thankful for Carol Rubino , she guided me through the preparation of nationals by providing numerous mock interviews and a mock self expression . This practice gave me the confidence I needed to successfully perform the categories I ’ ve dreaded the most .
As I was disappointed the trip to Mobile , AL couldn ’ t happen , I still made the most of the experience . I not only took away scholarship money for school , but opened myself to some incredible people . I couldn ' t have completed my DYW journey without the wonderful volunteers , sponsors , and my family and friends . The support was unreal ! An enormous thank you to everyone who was involved in this program and helped me grow into the woman I am today ! I ’ m extremely eager to pass on the Minnesota representation to the next bright young women who will embody this important role for nationals .
Now to the 2022 Distinguished Young Women , I wish the best of luck to all of you ! Remember no matter what happens , your determination is why you ’ re in this program , because you are all truly distinguished .
