Take a step back in time as you venture to one of the oldest salmon canneries in Ketchikan , Alaska . Explore the little cove where the cannery still sits today ; walk along the rainforest trail , tour the various buildings with original equipment and take a chance at axe throwing . Learn about the “ canning ” days of the past and how this once thriving cannery was a self-sustained community of approximately 200 people . During the scenic drive along the coast , there will be a brief photo stop in Saxman Native Village , where Tlingit Native Alaskans settled long ago . No history lesson of Ketchikan can be complete without a tasting of some of the most popular local delicacies . A menu of small bites — including fresh seafood , locally grown ingredients and wild-caught game — are served with your choice of Alaskan-brewed beer or wine .
