Incentive With any legislation alongside there has to be incentive to encourage all participants to get involved and follow the law driven procedures. From both focus groups, it was identified that incentive in terms of recycling had not been displayed in the UK. Participant one (appendices 3) discussed “when the bins first came out there was a lot of advertising, and leaflets out and things like that but all of a sudden it just sort of dropped off (.) you know you don’t really see any campaigns.” For an issue to be resolved on a bigger scale advertisement and marketing is key, so that a process becomes second nature for retailers and consumers. Why is it that advertising has not continued after legislation has been put into place? Participant three (appendices 3) suggesting that television programmes could be used to put emphasis on the problem. With participant five (appendices three) suggesting local campaigns and roadshows set up in town centres to get all ages involved. Participant 2 (appendices two) suggested that “people need to see … there’s some kind of benefit to them,” a good point hear linking to the idea of promotion through radio and television advertisement. Something that for participant four (appendices 2) believes should be invested in by the government. Without the UK being educated and taught about how their actions are helping the UK, it makes people less bothered and involved in the future. 52
