GLOSSARY OF TERMS Fast Fashion: A collection of garments sold for a cheaper affordable price, which are a result of catwalk designs moving into stores at a fast pace. Gleaning: The Gleaning Network coordinates volunteers, farmers and food redistribution charities in order to salvage the thousands of tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables that are wasted on farms every year across the UK and Europe, and direct this fresh, nutritious food to people in need. Generation Y: Millennials of a particular demographic, most researchers and commentators using birth years ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s Lignin: A complex organic polymer deposited in the cell walls of many plants, making them rigid and woody. Nylon: A tough, lightweight, elastic synthetic polymer with a protein-like chemical structure, able to be produced as filaments, sheets, or moulded objects. Polyethylene: A plastic polymer of ethylene used chiefly for containers, electrical insulation, and packaging. ‘Shwopping’: Swapping an old item of clothing within a retailer and consequently gaining a new product from the store or a voucher off reward.
