Feminist Slogan T-shirts Case Study
Perhaps one of the most recent forms
of empowertising is the vast feminist
slogan t-shirt trend. With this trend
taking over nearly all female high
street brands. The original feminist
slogan t-shirt came from Dior’s SS17
collection, stating “We should all be
Feminists” which comes from the book
“we should all be feminists” by Chima-
manda Ngozi Adichie. After the Dior
t-shirt modelled the runway of Paris
fashion week an array of celebrities
began to sport the feminist slogan
t-shirt trend. With the likes of Rihanna
modelling the t-shirt and then wearing
an “this pussy grabs back” pink hood-
ie from the label. Then Alexa Chung
wore an “In Solidarity” t-shirt from the
Deep End Club and actress Natalie
Portman wearing the Dior “We should
all be feminist” t-shirt at the Los An-
geles Women’s march whilst making
a speech. It’s fair to say that feminist
slogan t-shirts were an instant hit.
Soon after the high street took the
feminist t-shirt to their brands. With
Topshop the originators and brands
such as H&M, River Island, Missguided,
Forever 21, New Look, Pretty Little
Thing, Boohoo and Zara following
the trend. Feminist t-shirts are now
everywhere. This is a prime example of
empowering females. Using empow-
ering slogans such as “females of the
future” or “babe power” make females
feel good about themselves. However,
what many people seem to forget is
the real price of these feminist slogan
t-shirt.
Topshop are extremely disclosed
when it comes to listing their suppli-

that there Beyoncé sportwear clothing
line “Ivy Park” exploited foreign work-
