6.3Tiny Tots Feminism Case Study

Some people argue that Feminism will phase out others argue that the fourth-wave of feminism is on the horizon. Considering current problems with inadequate marketing towards females, the gender pay gap, Sexual assaults and Donald Trump is it overwhelming how much feminism still needs to exist. Furthermore, this suggests that there will be a fourth wave of feminism to overcome these issues. The LSN trend Tiny Tots Feminism indicates that from a young age females are now being encouraged to be independent. Disney have begun to change their typical princess films into empowering films with underlying messages of independence and self-acceptance. Aimed at generation Z the revamp on classic Disney princess stories could be encouraging feminism and empowerment from a very young age. Recent films such as Brave, Frozen and Moana see a young female taking control of their own life. Compared to previous Disney films such a Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty who rely on Prince Charming to come and save them.“ Brave and Frozen feature empowered princesses who are agents of their own stories … it’ s about overcoming obstacles and staying true to their dreams”.( Rees, 2014). Encouraging independence and self-acceptance from such a young age will give young girls confidence to pursue their dreams and become resilient. Considering that the audience for these films will not only be young females but males too, it is important to highlight the effect this will have on them. Young boys watching these films see a female lead role being successful and powerful. This will help to imprint into boys at a young age that females are not inferior to male. Overall the new Disney princess films are a step forwards from feminism, as it implements from a young age that girls can be whoever they want to be and are powerful. Thus, engaging young girls in feminism. It also encourages young boys to see females as strong independent individuals, therefore executing the problem of the power in balance in the early stages of life.
