ASk ELsa

Dear Elsa,

I love doing ballet and I love performing in front of people too. But there’s only one problem: I’m the only teenage guy in my school who dances ballet. I’m the target of everyone’s jokes and whenever they see me, they ask me where my tights are. The jocks are the worse; they make me feel uncomfortable all the time at lunch. The only friends I have are the girls from my ballet school. I’m thinking of quitting ballet to do sports so I can fit in. I don’t even know what I want to do anymore.

Sincerely,

Dear ballet_is_life,

First of all, it’s great that you still appreciate and have a passion for the art of ballet. Second of all, I understand what you are going through right now, and I know it’s hard.

I know this is kind of clichéd, but remember that it is important to be who you are. Don’t try to be someone you aren’t because it is going to help you in the long run, believe me I know.

It is a good idea to try something else for a change but don't give up something you have a passion for. But because you have a strong body from dancing, you are capable of doing a sport. You can also try joining the dance team at your school too and can contribute to the team with your dance skills too. You can also make great friends on the dance team.

As for the bullies, they will always be bullies. If you have a strong group of friends, then you'll be able get through with anything the bully does. If it becomes more serious, I suggest that you talk to someone you can trust in like a parent or a teacher.

Sincerely,

Elsa
