Disney princesses not only affect girls’ construction of gender roles; they can affect boys’ too. Through the “Disneyfication” of princesses such as Ariel or Snow White, young boys are implanted with the idea that women depend on them to find happiness, and that the role of men is to “protect” women.

Disney characters incite both boys and girls to start constructing a gendered identity from an early age. At worst, boys could develop sexist attitudes that eventually construct a rape culture and girls could develop inferiority complexes or a pleasure in being desired/an idea that they are meant to be desired.
