Addressing the trauma, the feelings of low self-worth as well as the disdain held for self and others is a long process and needs intense therapy for transformation to take place. People should not be owned by another human being. We all deserve to have our own life, make our own decisions, and create lives for ourselves. Slavery of any kind is just wrong. Human trafficking is modern-day slavery.

I now realized what I wanted to do for my class project. I would open a safe house for adult women survivors of human trafficking. Although I wanted to create homes for everyone, I settled on women so that we could open ‘quickly’. I knew this population best and it became the mission to open the 1st long-term treatment facility in Southeastern Michigan for adult women survivors of human trafficking. It took 4 years of meetings and presentations and going out into the community to inform people of what we were doing and creating
