VACATION AND TRAVEL
In this article, you will find that there are very nice dinner theatres that are outside of Michigan that can be done as a day trip, or as a mini vacation of 2 or 3 days. You will also find that the food they serve is really good, with a nice entertainment show after you eat first. At all these dinner theatres, they have live plays and musicals mainly, and live band entertainment shows. I have been to many of these places, and they make for a great evening or matinee.
This first one is the Derby Dinner Playhouse located at 525 Marriott Drive, Clarksville, Indiana. They are a little over 5 hours from Michigan. The Derby Dinner Playhouse is a theatrical entertainment leader, and they are noted for their professional productions of Broadway musicals and lighthearted comedies. Each dinner theatre production comes alive with the magic of lights, costumes, a live orchestra, and a stage full of professional performers. Derby Dinner operates with over 100 employees, working in the restaurant and theatre portions of the business. This probably may need to be an overnight trip for some.

Now, Derby Dinner freshly prepares a home-style buffet that features Classic American Cuisine. Selections include a full salad bar, a variety of vegetables, fish, fried chicken, hot rolls, and beverages. Take your time as the “Overtures,” Derby Dinner’s own talented vocal ensemble, entertains you just before the stage production. A full bar and delicious desserts are a specialty of the house. Paid Parking! Upcoming productions are Come from Away, MO5AIC, Dial “M” for Murder, Chris Collins & Boulder Canyon presents a Tribute to John Denver, and Elf the Musical. Their website is https://derbydinner.com/about/. The next theatre is also in Indiana, and that is the Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre at 9301 Michigan Rd. in Indianapolis. This theatre is closer at 4 hours and 30 minutes to get there from Michigan. Upcoming productions are: Waitress, Heartbreak Hotel, Tootsie, A Beef & Board Christmas, and A Christmas Carol.
These productions include a dinner buffet and always include their signature hand-carved roast beef and other meat options, as well as a fruit and salad bar and hot vegetable items. Also included with the buffet is unlimited coffee, tea, or lemonade. The buffet menu for future productions is not available until the opening day of each show, meaning it is not always the same food. Free parking! Middlebury St in Shipshewana in Indiana (Amish area). This is not technically your typical Dinner Theater, but most people have dinner first in The Blue Gate Restaurant before heading to the theatre in the same building. I have been there
