If you decide to spend the night, there are different attractions you can see like “Fort Michilimackinac,” or take a speedboat out to Mackinaw Island and view the island from the back of a bicycle, walking, or on a horse driven carriage tour of the island. On the Island there are also many other outdoor activities to see and do such as “Fort Mackinac, Mackinac Island State Park, Arch Rock,” plus see the “Grand Hotel” from the Hollywood movie “Somewhere in Time” starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, as well as many other sites to see on this scenic Island.

Four miles downstream, the lower falls are an equally magnificent series of five smaller falls cascading around an island which can be reached by rowboat. A hiking trail runs between the falls along the riverside through unspoiled forest. There are 40 miles of hiking trails altogether. This is a great place to experience the fall foliage!

Now, while you are up in the U.P. as some call it, there are other highly rated attractions such as “Presque Isle Park” in Marquette, and the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie on Lake Superior, Miners Castle Rock in Munising, Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Ontonagon, Sugarloaf Mountain in Marquette, being some of the more popular scenic attractions. There are also different scenic boat tours in the U. P. such as the “Soo Locks” boat tours, having a two-hour dinner cruise with buffet, which is located 50 miles north of Mackinaw City. They offer a wide variety of maritime sightseeing adventures, including the popular Soo Locks sightseeing tours, enjoyable luncheon and dinner cruises, and adventurous lighthouse cruises, having five tour boats. If you want to take a one hour sunset cruise, they offer one in Mackinaw City called “Ugly Anne” boat cruises. This cruise will take you under the Mackinac Bridge which gives you the best seat in

Now, if you decide to stay in Mackinaw City more than one day, they have different side trips you can take that are very scenic. One side trip that comes to mind is “Tahquamenon Falls State Park,” which is about a one hour and 40 minute drive across the bridge located in the Upper Peninsula. The upper Tahquamenon Falls has a stunning 50ft cascade and is 200ft across. This amber colored display is the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi River.
