When I spoke with Gino Byrd, AKA MC Gino, on the phone June 4th , he immediately knew who I was and was elated to hear my voice. Turns out that we met when he was only eighteen years old; he is now thirty-three years old. He was starting to live his dream by going back into broadcasting on the radio with WHPR Radio, 88.1 in Highland Park, Michigan. We met sixteen years ago at the station when I had been a guest on a few TV shows. Evidently, I left a lasting impression upon him, so when he heard my voice on the phone sixteen years later, he was elated that we had reconnected. I must admit, I have met a lot of talented young people throughout my career, but this young man is probably the most gifted, and passionate person I have ever met in the industry of broadcasting. Gino is very charismatic and articulate. He can bedazzle an audience with very little effort.
This relationship has blossomed into a wonderful friendship in which there have not been too many days we have missed talking with each other. Since our reconnection, Gino is now hosting his own segment of a program called “What’s going on Detroit” and I am a Detroiter, in which he teams up with radio personality and executive producer of Detroiter’s United Radio Broadcast, Queen Dyna on station FM 88.1. MC Gino is also a TV host for the show “Inside the political Machine”. In addition, he is the sales manager for Detroiter’s United Radio broadcast. As you can see, he wears many hats, and he wears them exceptionally well.
