B. Let your child know that when earthly goals would pull them from their Godly purpose, they must identify God’s gifts and plans for their lives. God created each of us with a unique purpose and a perfect plan for our lives. It’s never too early to begin planting seeds in your child’s mind that God has a “perfect plan” for the days of their lives. They need to know that if we pursue our own dreams without any regard for God’s plan for our lives, we wind up feeling empty, frustrated and disillusioned inside. They need to know that more important than what we DO (job, sports, accomplishments) is what we ARE (character development). Teach them the powerful truth in Jer. 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” Help them to choose the path they will follow!
C. When life gets hard, show your children God’s glory! Psa. 145:4-7 says, “One generation shall commend your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.” Of all the things we do as parents, the most important thing we must do is show our children the glory of God! In every problem our children encounter in life, we need to show them by example our trust in God and immediately running to Him in prayer. We must be diligent in
this, since every day our children’s hearts are bombarded with a tempting array of experiences and desires that promise to fulfill their longings. Toys, sports, affirmation, popularity, grades, friends, reputation—are potential idols in our children’s hearts. As parents, we want to teach our children that their sinful hearts will seek out these substitutes…but we long to show them that God alone is their greatest treasure and desire! May we cry out like David in Psa. 27:4, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life…” CRY OUT TO GOD FOR YOUR CHILDREN BY NAME NOW!
