VACATION AND TRAVEL

Now, going such a short distance, you do not need a private room, unless you are going further in distance, and you want to sleep in a berth (bed), which cost much more. Depending on what time you leave or the particular-day will dictate the cost.

Now, let us say you are leaving Tuesday, August 5th 2025 from the Dearborn Station (DER), and returning-back to the Dearborn Station (DER) on the 7th, a 2-night, 3-day trip. The cost to Chicago (CHI) is $35.00 if you leave at 6:29am or 6:44am for example, and business class seating is more at $75.00 to get there.

(Now, you need to read the stipulations comparing coach versus business class, which mainly has to do with cancelation refunds, as well as other things to be

railroad tracks. Now, here is a good example on how this works.

Example: Let us say you wish to go to Chicago for some shopping and visit a theater, and you wish to spend a day or two. You could leave out of the Dearborn, Michigan, or the Toledo Ohio station, depending on where you live. Let us say you leave out of the Dearborn station, which is (DER) the train station code, and your arrival station is Chicago (CHI) Union Station, where there are 2 other stations in Chicago by their 2 airports, O’Hara and Midway.

Toledo, Ohio station, the cost is cheaper, plus the time is less. The closest station to where I live is the Dearborn station. If you take the Dearborn station hypothetically, then the train takes you to Chicago first, (which is a hub, meaning it has trains that go further west, east, and south,) where then you need to get on another train that leaves Chicago heading east passing through Toledo, just to go to Niagara Falls in New York. You end up spending more money, and more time, so for a New York trip it makes more sense to drive down to Toledo first, where they have plenty of free parking.

The Amtrak’s Toledo Union Station (TOL) address is 415 Emerald Avenue, and there is easy access from Interstate 75 (get off at Exit 201A). The address to the Dearborn Station (DER) is 21201 Michigan Avenue, where the parking is also free and there are many spots. They use the same parking lot as the Dearborn police.

Now, you will find that there are 22 Michigan stations if you want to do trips inside of Michigan. All stations, you should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to departure if you are checking baggage or need ticketing/passenger assistance, and, you should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure if you are not checking baggage or do not need assistance.

This next part of the article I am going to walk you through hypothetical trips, just to show you the cost. You will also find that there are states in the USA that do not have stations. In some cases when you arrive at a train station, they put you on a bus after a layover to take you to your final-destination city that is not near the
