Hello everyone!
Well, we are well into summer and the weather has been extremely hot and humid, but it has not interfered with the enthusiasm and commitment those who are participating in our summer youth program has for the STEP UP program. We have just completed our fifth week and we are going strong. Our participants are attentive and excited, and they are learning information that many adults who have been running a business haven’t learned yet. In fact, I am still learning new things about running my non-profit. We have five more weeks and I am looking forward to all of the information that will be presented in those five weeks. This year we have had the pleasure of working with brand new instructors and some returning staff, but nevertheless, we are getting the job done.
This month we are going to feature one of our former star participants, Mohammad Monet. He is one of our success stories and he decided to come back and join us this summer to help and get some refresher information. Mohammad was selected to be in this issue because we want to share with our readers the kind of impact our youth program is having on our students. Mohammad has come through a lot of adversities, yet he is determined that he will be successful no matter what! It was just recently that he showed me his “I will” list that he has written in a small notebook. I haven’t met such a young person with so much drive and determination and such humility. He is a big guy, with a big heart and a big determination to live his dream and fulfill his purpose. Mohammad was the first one to register for the program last year and when I saw his picture and read his essay, I knew he would be a good fit. He has not disappointed us, and you will soon read why.
But as usual, we will also feature other articles that will inspire, and inform you. Each month our editor, Toni Coleman, comes to me with excitement telling me what a great issue it’s going to be. She gets to read the magazine first and because of all
the information that is in it, she has become quite knowledgeable. She is excited about the magazine and she can’t wait to share it with all of you. We have articles that will teach you how to understand and care for your canine and feline companions, articles dealing with marriage and courtship, some great recipes, advice for travel, finances and of course, articles that will inspire and feed your spirit. As I always state, Discovering You Magazine is a one stop shop for you avid readers. I know you will not be disappointed.
We have made the magazine easily accessible by bringing it to you digitally once a month, and it is absolutely free! So, what do you have to lose? There is no risk involved.
