being enslaved again so she murdered her favorite daughter and later instead of being put to death, they sent her back to her slave owner. She refused to return, so she planned again to kill herself as well as her nine month old baby she carried in her arms. On the way back across the Ohio River to Kentucky, Margaret jumped or fell overboard with her baby in her arms. The child drowned but she survived. After hearing this Margaret was overcome with joy that another one of her offspring was out of the reach of bondage. Her fierce heart, her will of steel and her love for her family and freedom caused her to make the decision that she believed was her only option for her children, no matter what she had to do for the action that she took. Certainly, I am not condoning that type of behavior today but what I am saying is a mother will take risks in her own life for the freedom of her children. Indeed, my salutation is to the black mother today, who swapped fear for faith, poverty for increase and healing for her pain. Who found open doors of opportunities that would lead not only her but her family to complete recovery? Mothers whose love is unconditional that causes her to be honored in every speech of the black son or daughter that graduate from college with their master's degree or find success that causes them to be in the spot light with the twinkle of heaven's creations. To the black woman, that has no biological children that would go out in the community and adopt someone else's children that need the motherly support and nurturing that only she can provide.
Why should she care? She has no child of her own, but the God character that she possesses must perform the miracle of delivery. To the not so perfect mom who had some failures in life but refuse to quit. We still cry for the children that walk the streets lost and turned out. We cry for the safety of our children, for their deliverance and for the healing of our land. God please help us! To the Mothers that may have sons and daughters behind prison doors, you are saluted today and it is no fault of your own.
I am the product of praying mothers who always tried to set good examples for their children, hiding their own short comings. As a child I never understood until I became a mother myself. Mommy, I love you and thanks again for all you've done.
