South Lake Tahoe Shoreline

They also offer in the general area “Snowshoeing,” which offers easy and not so easy well marked hiking trails throughout the “Sierra Nevada Mountains.” You can enjoy beautiful views of the lake below among ponderosa pine trees, while getting a workout in the meantime. Here at ‘Lake Tahoe” you can also rent snowmobiles that you can drive through the mountain on machine groomed trails, where the elevation reaches nearly 9,000 feet above sea level. These different trails cater to beginners as well as advance riders, having more challenging trails to take. There is a tour guide that will escort you up the mountain which will have different stops along the way for photography, having amazing views from so far up.

Other winter things to do are, “Ice Skating, Tubing, Snow Boarding, and Dog Sledding,” plus also they have horse drawn “Sleigh rides.” On the South end of the lake has a lot of activities as well. They have a “Gondola” ride located at “Heavenly Village,” that takes you to the top of the “Sierra Nevada Mountains” for higher up viewing and offering many photo opportunities.

The next thing I want to talk about is accommodations. I have personally vacationed here two different years. I stayed in a log cabin the first year, and a few years later I stayed in a hotel. Both places were great, but if I went back again, I would stay at the log cabin again, especially if its summertime. The log cabin is located on the “Southeastern” corner of the lake. I stayed at the “Zephyr Cove Resort.” This is an awesome place to stay. My cabin was facing the lake located only 40-50 feet from the water. In that location, you will find all the modern conveniences, which has an old-time rustic charm about it.

Besides all the cabins here, they have a “Historic Lodge” building that has guest rooms, as well as a great restaurant onsite serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have an “RV” and campground nearby if you really want to rough it.

VACATION AND TRAVEL

If you are in the mood to enjoy the lake even though it’s in the winter, then you will find they have a “Marina” onsite for boat rental. If you wish to be in a warm enclosed area then I highly recommend taking a dinner or sightseeing cruise on the “MS Dixie II” sternwheeler paddleboat. They have sightseeing cruises year-round.
