VACATION AND TRAVEL

Also, with 500-600 permanent residents, plus all the visitors you will find on this island there is a little bit of everything like restaurants, 13 fudge shops, bicycle rentals for rides around the 8.2-mile perimeter of the island with stops along the way for many sites to see and view or ride down main street, gift shops galore, art galleries, grocery store, salons, and spas, etc.

Now, back on the island are more attractions such as Fort Mackinac, which is another fort. You will see 14 historical structures with exhibits explaining everything from military training and battles to medical treatments to family life within the fort. And then there is the 1830’s home of Agatha and Edward Biddle, merchants who moved in around 1830. Costumed interpreters will interpret the house. Exciting and informative cooking demonstrations will take place throughout the day in the kitchen, as well as the rest of the house, and, see Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park. See a costumed worker at a sawmill with a live theme show with many things to do there to keep the kids involved. There is wall climbing, bike trails, a unique playground, ziplining, and more.

Anyway, this next attraction most people never heard of and that is the Mackinac Island State Park, which is a landscape characterized by high limestone bluffs, beautiful vistas of sparkling water, vibrant forests, and mystical geological formations. With automobiles banned since 1898, there exists a quieter way of life away from the interstate noise of cities. Over 80 percent of Mackinac Island is within Mackinac Island State Park—FREE of charge and open year-round—where you will discover the true natural gems of Mackinac.

Now, whether visiting this island by foot, bike, horseback, horse, and carriage, these geological wonders and unique historical monuments are visual treasures found only there. Arch Rock is one of the geological highlights. It is a natural rock soaring 149 feet above the Straits of Mackinac in the state park.

Now, there is also nightlife there with live music as well as some hotels with piano players, and the grand hotel with an orchestra, plus great dining there to enjoy such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner, having Mexican food, burgers, chili dogs, any American cuisine, chicken, pizza, fish, as well as your upscale hotel restaurants having most of the same items with a few other things like steaks, prime rib, salads, soups and more, all found there on the island.
