on the island. You will see no cars! On this island is where they filmed the 1980 Hollywood movie “Somewhere in Time,” starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. One of the first things people seek out is the Grand Hotel where many scenes were filmed.

Anyway, the main dining room seems to be a very popular place to eat. Few dining locations are more picturesque than Grand Hotel’s main dining room. It overlooks the world’s longest porch, displaying the hotel’s many American flags, as well as the glistening Straits of Mackinac. If you wish to look around inside the hotel, there is a 10-dollar fee to do so, plus they give you a map of different points of interest, inside and outside. For your convenience, the Grand Hotel operates horse-drawn carriages between the docks and the hotel. As with all taxi services on Mackinac Island, there is a $8.00 per person fee minimum.

Now, back in Mackinaw City, which by the way is a great hub for area attractions like driving across the 5-mile bridge into St. Ignace in the Upper Peninsula, which is a 4-dollar fee to go across the bridge, and as you are going across the bridge, one side of the bridge is Lake Huron, while the other side is Lake Michigan. Once across they have some good nearby attractions such as Tahquamenon Falls,

which is only 55 miles from this

Now, the cost is $30.00 for an adult round-trip ferry ticket and less for a child. They have package deals if you have more people in your group where you will get a discount, or get a discount in some cases if you order online ahead of time. You can also bring your bike on the boat for a cost of $16.00, or rent one when you get there unless you just want to walk, and it's FREE to take your leashed dog with you. This is a 16-minute boat ride to get to the island. Now, once you arrive, you will find out that only horses and buggies, and bicycles are allowed
