Change weak passwords, use multifactor authentication where available, back up important files, update software, and review who has access to sensitive business information. Important documents should be stored securely and backed up in case a computer, phone, or other device is lost or damaged.
Start Planning for 2027
Do not wait until January to decide what you want your business to accomplish next year.
Ask yourself: Where do I want my business to be this time next year?
Write down your goals. Perhaps you want to increase revenue, obtain funding, hire employees, launch a new product, expand your services, improve your website, purchase equipment, obtain nonprofit status, open another location, or reach a new group of customers.
Whatever your goals may be, begin developing the plan now.
Finish the Year Strong
Fall reminds us that seasons change, and businesses must be willing to change and prepare as well. The decisions you make during the final months of 2026 can have a tremendous impact on how you enter 2027.
Take care of unfinished business. Organize your records. Review your finances. Follow up with customers. Evaluate your goals. Make necessary adjustments. Most importantly, do not become so busy working in your business that you forget to spend time working on your business.
Review Employees and Independent Contractors
If you have employees or independent contractors, review your records. Make sure you have the necessary documentation and that compensation records are organized.
This is also a good time to evaluate staffing needs. Do you need additional help? Is someone taking on responsibilities that should be formally added to his or her position? Does your staff need additional training before 2027?
Strong businesses need strong people, and fall is an excellent time to evaluate your team.
