VACATION AND TRAVEL
This next entertainment venue is the Des Moines Playhouse. The Des Moines Playhouse, using all-volunteer casts and crews, presents a full season of musicals, dramas, comedies, and family shows each year. The shows represent the best of Broadway present and past, with professional quality sets, costumes and acting at a price nearly everyone in the community can afford. The upcoming productions are: Come from Away, Annie, The Lifespan of a Fact, Les Misérables, Amadeus, and Mean Girls. Other notable entertainment venues in town are: Noce Jazz Club, Sheslow Auditorium, The Dinner Detective, Teehee's Comedy Club, as well as others.
This next part of the article I wish to talk about top-of-the-line attractions very near Des Moines. The first one is located 3 hours to the east in the city of Dyersville. Go visit the free admission Hollywood movie site “Field of Dreams.” Movie buffs and baseball fans alike will love this day trip away from the bustle of the city. Dyersville, Iowa, has been home to the Field of Dreams movie site since the late 1980s when the iconic film starring Kevin Costner was released in theaters.
Now, if you are on your way home after your trip is winding down, then this is a very enjoyable stop especially if you
Winter Concert (free to attend), The Wizard of Oz in Concert, plus others I did not list.
Gardens, Easter Lake Park, Margo Frankel Woods State Park, and many others not listed.
Anyway, you will also find that Des Moines has different places where you can enjoy all types of entertainment such as Hoyt Sherman Place. Here you will see live concerts, comedy, live theatre, and spoken word (storytellers). Some of the upcoming productions are: The Rush Tribute Project (live music), The Sound of Gospel (live music), George Lopez (comedy), Steven Curtis Chapman (Christian live music), Trisha Yearwood: The Mirror Tour (Country concert), and many other shows I did not list.
Now, here is another entertainment venue you will really enjoy, and that is the Des Moines Symphony. The Des Moines Symphony Orchestra is one of Iowa’s and the Midwest’s premier arts institutions. Upcoming concerts and events are: Miguel Harth-Bedoya Maestro Class (free to attend), Love – Romeo & Juliet, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in Concert, Youth Symphony & Youth Wind Ensemble
