Hello everyone,
Somebody said that it could not be done—this is probably what a lot of people were thinking when they decided not to participate in the STEP UP Program. Several months before we launched, we reached out to many business owners, and asked for donations, sponsorship and coming on board to instruct our students. The response was simply ignoring our request. I personally spent countless hours on the phone, texting and email people asking for assistance. Going into the different schools was also a chore. You would be surprised at the many superintendents and principals who do not respond. I am neither bitter or saddened by this fact. Actually, I am elated and in awe to see how God moved in spite of their lack of response and support.
We launched the ten-week program on Monday, June 18 and we have not looked back. We saw the situation as the class being half full. The full part was supported by several local restaurants, and a few of our larger organization such as Zeal Credit Union and Sam’s Club. But the icing was placed on the cake when we received almost a $1800.00 grant from Foresters Financial. Many of you reading this article are probably saying to yourself right now, “Never heard of them”. And you will not hear about them unless you meet a member, participate in one of their wonderful activities as a family member of a Foresters’ member, or an insurance broker tells you about it because you are looking to buy life insurance. This is a company that has been around for at least a century and they are movers and shakers, and through their contribution, we were able to bring our dream to fruition in a greater way.
This issue is to pay tribute to them, Foresters Financial for the great work they are doing in our communities and what they did personally for our organization. Remember the mission of the magazine is to showcase ordinary people who are doing extraordinary works in our community. This company is made up of ordinary people who are doing the extra ordinary. They are driven and dedicated people whose sole purpose is to bring change in every area of a person’s life, and personally, that is what I want to be a part of. Of course, we have other articles that you will thoroughly enjoy too.
