The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center
River, the Interpretive Center’s all-new galleries exhibit world-famous art collections of the Lewis & Clark-era artifacts, as well as exhibits. The entrance fee to the North Dakota & Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center also includes entrance to Fort Mandan, just a few minutes away. They are located at 2576 8th St SW in the city of Washburn.
Now, two miles west of the Interpretive Center you can take a step back in time by visiting the reconstructed Fort Mandan, the winter home of the Lewis & Clark Expedition from 1804-05. The fully furnished quarters will bring to life what it was like for the brave men of the expedition during that North Dakota winter over 200 years ago. The Museum Store and interpretive facilities are open daily. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students.
You will also find that very near the capitol building in Bismarck is the Former governor's mansion. The Former Governors' Mansion offers a glimpse into the life of a governor in the 19th century. The mansion has been painstakingly restored to its former glory and is decorated in period pieces. It was built in 1884 and housed 20 governors from its inception until 1960. The address there is 320 East Avenue B. This is a FREE admission!
You will also find a lot of attractions in this city outdoors because of the scenic nature of this area. For a relaxing time check out McDowell Dam Nature Park.
Now, if you wish to experience something indoors as far as entertainment, then check out Belle Mehus Auditorium, the Belle Mehus Auditorium has been hosting shows since 1914. In conjunction with the Bismarck Event Center, this historic theater is the epitome of community arts in Bismarck. Performances range from professional dance series to the symphony and children's choir Christmas concerts. The theater underwent major renovations in the 90s to return it to its original grandeur.
That work, and the history behind it all, is readily apparent the moment you walk into this theater now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Some of the events there are Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Tribute band, Bee Gees Tribute Band, concerts, Broadway shows, Christmas shows, Symphony Orchestra, and so much more happening there. Every town seems to have a variety of museums, but this one is different from the state museum. The Gateway to Science is North Dakota's hands-on science center. With exhibits to touch and discover, Gateway to Science is an educational, hands-on, entertaining experience for visitors of all ages. Admission is $9.00 for Adults, and $6.00 for children. Allow 1-2 hours to see. This is a great place to take the kids! They are located at 1810 Schafer Steet.
