Nestled among mountains and plains, Henan is naturally blessed with geothermal springs with most of the water naturally heated between 40-60°C. There are more than 300 geothermal wells within the province and that excludes those by hotels and health resorts that have drilled their own hot spring wells for mineral water and bathing pools for guests.
In Zhengzhou, the provincial capital of Henan, the water from the hot springs is reputed to be the clearest and drinkable. There are a handful of spas and hotels along the Yellow River with the Synear Golf Hot Springs Resort offering villas, each with their own hot spring pool.
Pingdingshan has one of the highest concentrations of natural hot springs. One of the most popular sights of the area is the Spring Temple Buddha, so named due to the hot springs in the area. Below this attraction and at the foot of Foshan Mountain is the Yaoshao Fuquan Spa Resort with 80 spa pools. Yujingwan Spa Resort in Lushan county of Pingdingshan is built in the open to take advantage of its beautiful surroundings. Spanning 64km2, it is the largest open-air spa facility in central China.
