India and Japan last year signed a deal to build a high-speed train connection between Mumbai and Ahmedabad implementing Shinkansen technology for the first time. Since then there has been a constant debate over its economic feasibility and impact on railway. Though a majority welcomes the introduction of HSR (High Speed Railway), the decision has been question on various platforms as wastage of money. The train is expected to travel at 320 km per hour and is expected to reduce travel time from existing eight hours to less than two hours. The High Speed Rail Corporation of India Limited was set up in July 2012 as a subsidiary of the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited with the express purpose of developing and implementing high speed rail projects in India.
