advertisement about 1000 acres of campus
10000 placements etc. For a prosperous future
they invest about 10 lakh rupees (15000$)
approx. in four years and yet this doesn’t ensure
the same.
I think it's wrong to simply blame engineering
colleges for churning out sub-standard
engineers. Hardly anyone in India aspires to be a
good engineer in the first place. Very few become
engineers sheer out of curiosity and interest
about how things work. People who are really
interested in their field make sure they do not
remain sub-standard, no matter what college
they are in!
won’t be touched again and would be erased
from the mind. And that’s why a greater
emphasis on practical engineering is needed
Keep aside IITs and NITs, when do you often hear
about an innovation by the student? The
maximum I have heard was that few students
made a car using bike engine and car chassis by
welding the angle. Come on! These things can’t
be called innovation or something. Recreating
what already has been developed 50 years ago
isn’t engineering.
I said it’s wrong to simply blame colleges not that
they don’t share responsibility for this worsened
situation. Earlier I told you that I have been to a
lot of colleges for the purpose skill
enhancements of student so that they could
have those to fit into the construction industry.
While a few directors/chairmen were keen and
understood our approach, but the rest? Here’s an
extract of what I keep listening,
“We know you are seeking business opportunity
here, you are not doing it for charity, but we want
assurance of minimum 2 placement by your
company before the training or bring any other
company to our campus. Else our faculty is capable
enough to teach our kids.”
Even Kejriwal can’t give free water to Delhi
people. Anyhow the Jal board has to be paid for
its services. They firmly admit that they sell
degree for money and refrain from any sort of
experiments with their curriculum.
Not to forget is the old age text books and course
which are yet be taught in the colleges. There is
so much emphasis on sessional and lab
practical’s with lab files being copied from earlier
batches. Of course academic knowledge is good
but the pattern we are following, a student simply
drinks whatever it can and vomits in the
examination hall. If cleared in exam, that subject
Talking about the employers, igloo makers are
too right on their stand. They do have ample
options. Anywhere they see, it’s all white. Snow
and snow only. All holding up there degrees
looking up to them for being chosen. Employers
are no emotional fools or something. Think of
yourself as a company owner, what type of
employees would you see? Definitely a
hardworking, quick learner, enthusiastic and
learned. If you find these qualities in yourself,
consider yourself hired then.
Remember the moment you became an
engineer, you became snow in this Antarctica
with other lakhs and lakhs of engineer. You may
melt and start chasing after MBA, Bank PO etc.
But to be chosen for being an igloo brick, you
need a special texture, because….
“Nobody buys snow in Antarctica”
