Showing off our community during solar eclipse

At the Anderson Madison County Visitors Bureau , we consistently discuss and promote fairs , festivals , and events to drive traffic to Madison County . We also discuss and promote quality of place and all that we have to offer as a reason to visit our wonderful county . Natural phenomena present a great opportunity for visitors to experience our offerings . April 8 , 2024 , will be another amazing experience as a solar eclipse will blanket most of Indiana with a path from Evansville to south of Fort Wayne . Some might recall the last total eclipse in 2017 that traveled through southern Illinois , western Kentucky , and central Tennessee . Many people travelled hours and across state lines to get that experience . The same will happen this April , as people aim to get this experience in Madison County and our surrounding communities . Locally , the moon will begin covering the sun ’ s display around 1:50pm and return to normal around 4:25pm . The total eclipse will begin around 3:10pm and last nearly 4 minutes .
SAFETY TIPS :
• Plan where you will be for this experience . Don ’ t expect to look up while driving a vehicle . You will most likely experience more than the eclipse .
• Wear proper eye protection . Sunglasses , homemade devices , etc . won ’ t protect your eyes from damage . The Anderson Madison County Visitors Bureau will have complimentary official eclipse glasses for county events , guests , and residents as we get closer to this event . More details to be shared closer to the date .
• Be prepared if traveling to and from a viewing destination . If Madison County gets a healthy dose of out of market guests , roads will be congested . It is recommended to stay in place a little bit longer to allow traffic to thin out . Also , be an ambassador for Madison County and share your Hoosier hospitality efforts to make our guests feel welcome .
This natural phenomenon is a great opportunity to showcase our communities to people that have never experienced us . Let ’ s enjoy together .
