Professor Jason James , assistant professor and director of musical theatre and dance in the School of Music , Theatre and Dance at AU , is new in his role on campus . This year , he is in charge of the production , “ Into The Woods ,” a Grimm Fairytale that puts all the characters from each Grimm story into the same world , the woods , at the same time . As they each go through the woods , they learn some valuable lessons of consequences , decisions and about the choices that are made as adults , too . Performances for this production are February 16 , 17 and 18 and 22 , 23 and 24 in Byrum Hall Theatre .
James also mentioned there is a new fun community event this year called “ Swing Into Love ,” on Thursday , February 15 , 2024 . Students from local high schools plan to attend and anyone from the local community is welcome .
Ahn says the ‘ Swing Into Love ’ event is entirely new this year . It is a Valentine ’ s Day event that invites the community to come and learn swing dance and then spend the rest of the evening dancing to the AU Jazz Band who is also playing with a nearby high school band . “ This event starts at 5 p . m . with the dance lessons , then the event starts at 5:30 p . m .”
“ Michael Sobe , guest conductor , musical director and arranger , will be conducting the music for “ Into the Woods ,” and will also be performing onstage , Thursday , February 22 , 2024 with student orchestra band on stage for one night only of his performance of The Music of Elton John ,” said James .
