independently of each other and catering to different customers .
“ So they are two completely separate businesses ,” says Savanna Aiken , bar manager at Kettletop . “ They share a kitchen , and their food menu is our food menu , but the cocktails are different , the beers they have are not the same , and the vibes are just different .
“ We do more live entertainment , some karaoke . And when Usual Suspects has live entertainment they do more like a smooth
jazz night , that kind of thing .” Aiken , who has been at Kettletop for almost three years , has enjoyed seeing the change in downtown Anderson .
“ I think it ’ s so cool ,” she says of the atmosphere . “ It ’ s definitely coming back . There ’ s Oakley Brothers , you can hop over to BYOB ( Build Your Own Burrito ), you can go to Creatures of Habit , there ’ s Kettletop , Kroakerheads .
“ You could start your own bar crawl , and there ’ s concerts at the park every
other Friday .”
Whitson points to the diversity of menu – both food and drink – as a calling card for the area .
“ There are different food choices , from the high-end pub food to the finer steak dinners , and the creative menu options at Oakley Brother ' s ,” Whitson says .
At Oakley Brothers Distillery , you ’ ll find some delicious flatbread pizza options and other sandwiches and food choices . You ’ ll also find a never-ending array of cocktails and spirits crafted by a pair of brothers who own the business .
Aiken describes the food menu at Kettletop as upgraded bar food . Their specialty , wings , lives up to the term “ upgraded .” The full wings – each piece includes the drumette , the flat and tip – are smoked right there at Kettletop and seasoned with a house rub .
Kettletop – and The Usual Suspects next door − also serves other sandwiches , quesadillas and other appetizers such as onion rings and bosco sticks .
The two side-by-side businesses also turn it up a notch on most weekend nights , offering a fine steak dinner . And if Mexican fare is more your thing , you can hit Burro Loco or Riviera Maya Mexican Grill .
