With two official race charities , the Lambano Sanctuary and the The Namaqua Dog & Donkey Foundation , benefitting from voluntary donations from entrants in the Dis-Chem Half Marathon & 5km Dash Fun Run , the runners taking on this iconic race in 2024 are set to make a difference in the lives of many other people and animals .
What We Do : We are a patient and family centred medical step-down facility for children and adolescents , who have been referred from hospitals and other facilities . We admit patients to our facility for further medical , palliative , rehabilitative and psychosocial care .
Home-Based Care : After the child has been discharged from our Step-Down Facility to their homes , we place them in out Home- Based Care programme . A team consisting of a Nurse and either a counsellor or social worker will visit them at home until they are stable enough to be discharged from this programme .
Homes : Since 2001 we have cared for 30 HIV + children in our Foster Care Homes . We have provided a caring and nurturing environment for them to grow up into productive members of society . Currently , we have 8 children who are still in school and who are studying further .

CONCLUSION As an NGO , we rely heavily on funds to continue our effective services to benefit the disadvantaged children under our care and those admitted to the Hospice . Marketing and fundraising events have become a reliable source of small scale but regular income for Lambano .
Double the Money !
A big thank you to the kind and generous donations of the runners and the Dis-Chem Foundation who will be matching these donations to our two charities , the Lambano Sanctuary and the Namaqua Dog and Donkey Foundation .
The last race in 2023 a total of R63,460 was raised for the event charities . The generous donations by participants to our chosen charities continue to astound us . With the Dis-Chem Foundation having pledged to match the total amounts donated we were able to hand over R35,220 and R28,240 to

the Lambano Sanctuary and the Namaqua Dog and Donkey Foundation respectively
The Dis-Chem Foundation is a beneficiary of the Dis-Chem Benefit Programme , whereby each time a Benefit member swipes their card when purchasing something , Dis-Chem donates a percentage of the eligible purchase to the Foundation . That makes it possible for our team of compassionate social workers and caregivers to work closely with registered NGOs to support and improve the lives of struggling communities , impoverished families , abused children ,

abandoned babies , young girls who need sanitary pads , and people in need of healthcare services . |
