PRESIDENT
PAUL KAGAME
TAKES OVER AS
AU CHAIRMAN
R
wanda which was once known for
its gloomy past has now become
a shining star on the world stage.
Rwanda’s economy is clearly one of the fastest
growing economies in the whole of Africa.
Designated the ‘Singapore of Africa’, Rwanda
emerged from the ashes of economic misery
and a tremendous falloff in its infrastructure,
the insanity of its political formation and
unruly levels of psychological disturbance,
to become an economic dynamo and social
centre of the Central African sub-region.
Every day in the news we catch stories
about political leadership in countries
around the world. Time and again, a CEO is
accredited with turning his company around;
a general is adored for seizing triumph from
jaws of defeat on the battleground. Needless
to say, the role of a leader is extremely
infl uential in every success saga, and it is
likely in Rwanda's case as well.
No story about Rwandan reversal of
fortunes can be engraved without mentioning
this man – Paul Kagame. He appears like a
blessing, austere in his approach and clinical
in execution. Under President Paul Kagame,
Rwanda has become a bulwark of good
governance. The country is budding in all
areas of society and governance.
On 28th January 2018, President Paul
Kagame took over the Chairmanship of
the African Union from Guinea's President
Alpha Conde at the 30th Ordinary Session
of the Assembly of the Heads of State and
Government, within the framework of the
30th AU Summit.
