Hkkjr dk jktnwrkokl eLdV EMBASSY OF INDIA MUSCAT INDIA AT 70 FOREWORD I am glad that the “Diplomatist” magazine is bringing out a Special Report titled “India-Oman” to mark the 72nd Independence Day of India on 15 August 2018. India and Oman, maritime neighbors, linked by geography, history and culture, enjoy close and friendly relations. Inspired by historical links spanning over 5000 years, the two countries have forged a mutually benefi cial Strategic Partnership, which is based on shared interests, mutual understanding and respect for each other’s priorities and concerns. Regular high-level visits and exchanges have been a key feature of this relationship. The two countries have extensive security and defence cooperation, including exchange of defence delegations and joint exercises. The recent State Visit of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Oman in February 2018 as well as India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting in July 2018, co-chaired by Ministers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries, have provided a strong momentum in the bilateral ties. India- Oman bilateral reached US$ 6.7 billion in 2017-18. Investment fl ows have been robust, as refl ected in over 3000 Indo-Omani joint ventures established in Oman. There is a vast scope for enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as space applications, renewable energy, development of SMEs, skill development, agriculture and food security, healthcare, manufacturing, oil & gas, education, etc. India remains committed to nurture and expand its strategic partnership with Oman through enhancing the existing cooperation and identifying new areas for bilateral, regional and global collaboration, with a view to meet the development aspirations for our two countries and peoples. I thank the ‘Diplomatist’ magazine for bringing out this Special Report. I believe that it will contribute in further strengthening India-Oman bilateral relationship and exchanges and create better awareness about various facets of India’s strategic partnership with Oman.
