CULTURE CONNECT
Lighting of the lamp
Magos Herrera and Trio Afora
It was refreshing to hear Latin American Jazz in Delhi. The
wonderful singing and music created a connection with the
audience. We will remember the evening fondly which helped to
alter any stereotypes about their music. It may even inspire many
to go to these countries as tourists or to study music.
image of a country resulting in goodwill, which positively
infl uences policy options and decision making. Much of the
cultural assets of a country are not with the governments but
with non-state actors and governments create an enabling
environment for deploying these.

The wonderful singing and music created a connection with
the audience. We will remember the evening fondly which
helped to alter any stereotypes about their music. It may
even inspire many to go to these countries as tourists or to
study music. The bond created will endure. The musicians,
in turn, will hopefully speak warmly of their experience in
India which will inspire Mexicans and Brazilians to come
to India for tourism or to perform or experience India for
themselves.
The Jazz Concert succeeded in creating a constituency
of goodwill and an understanding of a different cultural
milieu. I went into the evening not knowing what to expect
but came away absolutely enamoured by the melange of
genres displayed during the performances. I speak on behalf
of everyone present that evening, we look forward to more
such concerts.
