A WORLD REORDER
NEW GEOMETRIES; FLUID PARTNERSHIPS;
UNCERTAIN OUTCOMES
T
he fourth Raisina Dialogue concluded in New Delhi
with the participation of prominent international
policy makers, academicians and strategic doyens
along with the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg during the
inaugural session.
The theme of the Dialogue was "A World Reorder: New
Geometries; Fluid Partnerships; Uncertain Outcomes”. The
deliberations focused on issues ascending from current global
evolutions and changes to the world order, elicited by unique
leaders and innovative partnerships.
The Indian External Aff airs Minister Sushma Swaraj in
her keynote address said that India stands for a democratic
and rules-based international order, in which all nations can
thrive as equals.
“India’s own engagement with the world is rooted in
its civilizational ethos, which has at its heart co-existence,
pluralism, openness, dialogue, and democratic values.
Today, India, with one-sixth of humanity, is experiencing
economic and social transformation on a scale which has
rarely been seen in the history of the world. While the
prosperity of Indians, both at home and abroad, and security
of our citizens are of paramount importance, self-interest
alone, does not propel us,” said Sushma Swaraj.
The Norwegian Prime Minister in her speech emphasised
that the principle of might is right cannot be used as a basis
for governing our oceans, or anything else for that matter.
PM Solberg also mentioned that India and Norway are
among a few countries which have research activities both
in the North Pole and the South Pole. While talking about a
rule-based international order, she stated, "Norway and India
share many values - a deep commitment to democracy and
rule-base economic world order. Many people feel left out
by globalisation - especially in the European political life.
We have to ensure that our citizens feel the positive eff ects
of globalisation."
