Since the country is divided into provinces , namely Asir , Bahah , Qasim , Najran , Ha ’ il , Riyadh , Tabouk , Mecca , Medina , Jizan , Jawf , the Northern Borders and the Eastern Province , the village of Al- Janadriyah is divided into sections according to the provinces and each province is given a ‘ pavilion ’ to showcase their unique culture , architecture , food , dances , traditional dresses , and craftsmanship . Citizens and tourists can , thus , experience and partake in a joyful atmosphere where they can enjoy the taste of sands and spices .
Although the festival offers a balanced view of different parts of the country and insight into Saudi Arabia ’ s rich heritage , the most striking feature of some of the provinces are worth mentioning . The ‘ Al-Shananah ’ Tower of the Qassim province is an archaeological landmark consisting of ten floors which is decorated with ancient inscriptions , both inside and outside . The Saudi Tourism and Heritage department mentions that the Tabouk province ’ s history , archaeological sites and heritage has attracted visitors outside the Kingdom , giving it global attention and widening its reach . Apart from this , the Muslim World League ’ s ( MWL ) pavilion at the festival receives many visitors and this wing is pioneering in ‘ spreading moderation as the foundation of the message of Islam ’. One also cannot miss the Camel Pageant and the Saudi folklore dance ‘ Al Ardah ’, which speaks volumes about Saudi culture and the people still preserving it . A Camel Race Track is organised on the first three days of the festival , followed by some horse races . The festival also takes into account the different components of each province ’ s culture while deciding on the themes of the event ; the newest entrant in the list of themes is ‘ Poetry ’.
This year ’ s Al Janadriyah was hosted from February 7th 2018 to February 28th 2018 , and the uproar of it reached as far as South Asia because the Host Country for the year was chosen by King Salman to be India . It is a tradition of this festival that the king picks a host country , and that particular country will be given a pavilion to showcase its culture and heritage . the festival kick started as it was inaugurated by King Salman and the Hon ’ ble External Affairs Minister Smt . Sushma Swaraj , who thanked the King for the gesture and reminded the nation of Hon ’ ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ’ s visit to Riyadh in 2016 , affirming the close relationship between the two countries .

The Indian pavilion tried to maintain a balance between ancient and modern India with contributions and representations from a lot of designated departments and Ministries such as the Indian Ordnance Factories Board , Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ), the Ministry of Ayurveda , Yoga and Naturopathy , Unani , Siddha and Homeopathy ( AYUSH ), the India Tourism Board , the Ministry of Textiles , the Handicrafts Promotion Council , the Ministry of Food Processing Industries , the Skill Development Council of India , and Digital India , to name a few .
