Another noteworthy aspect is the use of
terminology employed while referring to
the Rohingyas. The government of
Bangladesh has been conscious of
referring to the Rohingyas as forcibly
displaced persons of Myanmar. This is a
carefully chosen measure to help
Bangladesh clarify its stand on the
status of the Rohingyas in the country
and also to save it from the complexi*es
of signing the UN Conven*on Rela*ng
to the Status of Refugees, to which
Bangladesh is not a signatory yet. The recent Rohingya crisis is a new
dimension to the history of conflict diplomacy in South Asia.
Opinions are divided
about the actual number
of Rohingyas who will
return given how the
agreement contains a
clause that the refugees
need to produce proof of
residence in Myanmar
which some say very few
will be able to provide.
