How could DIP1000 can be improved to better prepare university students for the world Sugata describes?
Improvements to DIP1000 for consideration include:
Contextualising tasks based on the overall program that students enrolled in. This would increase relevance and intrinsic motivation, and give more coherence to the individual courses.
Reduce the reliance on forums for communication, encourage learners to engage directly with course facilitators earlier on. This stems from evidence that a response is not only more likely but more customised to an individual when in direct communication as opposed to forum use.
Dropping the use of Twitter as an activity. Little was gained from this, other than frustration.
Providing course materials in formats that are compatable with other devices such as tablets and smartphones.
Podcasts of relevant material.
