Many Johannesburg- based artists performed in Klerksdorp during 2013 but the best of the pick was definitely Zahara, Kelly Khumalo, Jacqui of Jamali and Dr Malinga.
Dinaledi Magazine rates the best as follows:
4) At number 4 is Jacqui the former singer of the Pop girl group Jamali. Jacqui took a courageous step by leaving Jamali during September 2013. She has a new single out called Fade Away. Jacqui performed at GOODFELLAS in November 1. It is still early days in her solo career but she definitely had the GOODFELLAS crowd dancing to her melodic voice and sexy outfit and dance moves.
3) At number 3 is Kelly Khumalo. Although pregnant at the time of her performance at GOODFELLAS on November 1 her dance moves were more sexy and energetic than ever. She was so sexy that a male fan grabbed her hand and kissed it slowly and passionately. A bouncer went up to the fan and pulled him away.
Most of the fans at the front, close to the stage were male. Kelly did well to keep up with her fast paced dancers. Kelly’s dancers changed clothes on stage during a break. As the dancers were half naked on stage, dressed only in underwear, the male fans drooled. “Calm down guys,” Kelly said to the crowd during the break. The dancers got into new outfits quite quickly.
2) Dr Malinga's performance at Levi Lounge on March 9, 2013. A very big crowd was packed into Levi Lounge to watch Dr Malinga perform. It was very hot inside the small venue but Dr Malinga gave a great performance.
Dr Malinga did not really like the stage at Levi Lounge. He complained about the ceramic tiled surface of the stage. “I must be careful I might fall on this stage,” said Dr Malinga. The small elevated platform that was used as a makeshift stage was small but nonetheless Dr Malinga performed most of the dance moves he is famous for.
Kwaito Legend, Thebe and DJ Mahooto also visited Levi Lounge on that night.
1) At number 1 is Zahara’s performance at Rio Casino on November 22. A rainy day and muddy ground did not stop hundreds of admiring fans from filling a big white tent to capacity. Zahara was late but when she arrived all was forgiven as the crowd sang along and danced along to all Zahara’s songs. Zahara also shared a stage with legendary poet Mzwakhe Mbuli.
