The Green Velvet Bedchamber

The Green Velvet Bedchamber is the grandest guest bedroom in Houghton Hall, dedicated as it is to Venus, the goddess of Love and Sleep. The room itself is some 15 feet in height and draped in green velvet. William Kent designed the bed, which is considered one of the finest

examples of an 18th-century state bed

anywhere in the world. The great shell of Venus

not only sits against the headboard but its design is echoed in the ceiling, tapestries and fireplace. Apparently, it is customary that newlywed members of the family spend their wedding night in the room.

In this room, Odundo chose to place a burnished black terracotta piece from 1995.
