The Loewe Foundation was established in
1988, by Enrique Loewe, a
fourth-generation member of Loewe’s
founding family. Today, Enrique’s daughter,
Sheila Loewe, directs the foundation.
The foundation’s initial purpose was “to support design and craftsmanship.” But, in fulfilling its purpose, the foundation has expanded programming over the years in order “to promote creativity, support educational programmes, and safeguard heritage in the fields of poetry, dance, photography, art and craft.” In 2002, the Spanish government awarded the foundation its highest honor – the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts.
