“Why is that?”
"Craft is more accessible. Think about it: daily we interact with dishes, cups, toilets. They are part of everyday life. Fine art is not necessarily a part of people’s everyday life.
Ah.. a balance of the two is a good recipe for a good relationship."
“Why do you think you have been so successful?”
"I’ve always stayed true to my vision. And I was comfortable knowing that if I didn’t make it as an artist, I could always work as a potter making plates for a living. It provided a sense of security to take the risks I did."
"In what way has your life changed since moving to the country?"
"It's better. The sense of the seasons is a joy, the gardens a bit of a handful, the studio is the studio of my dreams. I stop to smell the roses."
"What new projects are you planning?"
"I have a new book being published this year and hope to have an event/exhibition for the
launch, and to launch it in the USA next year.
I am also planning some more ceramic
workshops in India for Jan/Feb 2024.
I exhibit with Sassoon, who is my principal Art Dealer, and we are exhibiting in Treasure House
London next week, In PAD London in the
autumn and in Miami in December.
Many things bubbling away, I sense an architectural project in the air… the last project
to clad a building facade on Savile row was back in 2015, and im ready perhaps for another.".
"Are there projects you want to do but have not not yet done?"
"I would like to design for a small factory. I'd like to make the street front facade of a delicatessen. And i would like to live 100 more years."
"What do you want to be remembered for?"
"Kindness. I want to be remembered as a kind person. That would be dignified, don’t you think?"
We certainly think so.

It was not until recently that I thought of myself as an artist. [That changed] when I created a pumpkin that did not involve a lid or serve as a piece with implied utility. It was an object in-and-of-itself
