Chile is the southernmost country in
the world, stretching in South
America along a narrow land mass
between the Andes Mountains and
the Pacific Ocean from Peru to
Antarctica. Chile has been defined
historically by its Inca heritage, as
well as by the colonization of its
indigenous peoples by Spain.
These two historical realities continue to influence the political and cultural climate in much the same way that the country’s unique topography and rich plant, animal, and mineral biodiversity informs the economic climate. At the core of both these realities there is tension between those wishing for preservation and those wishing for profit.
Into this history and environment enters Cu Paper and Cu Fibra, a product and enterprise that represent a creative response to the country’s cultural and natural resource realities – in this case, large scale industrial production of natural resources such as copper and cellulose.
