Fernando Laposse was a featured speaker at the
“Dignify by Design” Summit, hosted by Human Dignity
Projects, over the course of July 9-10 in Santa Fe, New
Mexico. The summit’s theme was “Respecting People,
Place and Tradition” and coincided with the very
popular International Folk Art Market. Fernando was
selected because of his work with materials native to Mexico and how, in working with such, he regenerated abandoned agriculture traditions, revived fractured communities, and created meaningful work for many of their members.
Fernando studied at Central Saint Martins in London as a product designer, and he currently lives and works in Mexico City. Laposse’s projects have been exhibited in the Triennale di Milano, the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, The Design Museum in London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the World Economic Forum, among others. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Design Museum Gent, Le centre national des arts plastiques, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Victoria, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. He was named Designer of the Year at the latest edition of the Mexico Design Fair and won the Future Food Design Award during Dutch Design Week in 2017.
Suffice it to say, Fernando Laposse is very much on the design world’s radar.
