ERA INFLUENCE

The street wear movement originated around the late 1970s / early 1980s. Brands such as BlauGrun, Ocean Pacific, Hobie, Off Shore, Gotcha and Life's a Beach were very popular and dominated the scene. Shawn Stussy began to design and sell printed T-shirts featuring the same trademark signature he placed on his custom surfboards. When he first set up he was selling from his car but as demand increased and business expanded he began to open boutiques. Early street wear brands took inspiration from the trend of punk, heavy metal styles and early hip hop concepts. Kangol and Adidas jumped on the street wear scene around the early 1980s, fashion brands and sportswear brand began to catch onto the developing trend..
