Summer brings beach days and warmer weather to get out on the water or lounge by the pool . Of course , Newport Beach is perfect for outdoor activities year-round , but it becomes that much more enjoyable after we get past May gray and June gloom . Once sunny skies arrive , it ’ s time to get outside — whether dining in your own backyard or setting off on local adventures like boating on the harbor or paddleboarding in the Back Bay .

In this issue of Newport Beach Magazine , we offer an Outdoor Living special section filled with ideas for summer fun . Turn to page 54 for tips on setting up the perfect grilling area and advice from local chefs on techniques for grilling everything from meats to fish and veggies for delicious summer meals . Enjoy a pre-dinner drink mixed at your backyard bar : In “ Alfresco Aperitifs ,” ( page 60 ), experts weigh in with the best outdoor bar designs and important elements to consider .
