Interior Designer Wilfredo Emanuel has created cocktail pools that deserve to be noticed . “ Cocktail pools are a fantastic way to create an entertainment space without having to put in an entire pool ,” he says . “ Having a cocktail pool gives your guests an area to enjoy the outdoors while taking a dip to beat the heat and sip a cocktail .” They can be especially nice for homes that have smaller backyards or limited space , he says . And because of their smaller size , they are generally easier to care for and can be less costly . “ Whether they are used by themselves or in addition to a full-sized pool , cocktail pools are a great way to create the perfect outdoor space for you and your guests to enjoy ,” says Emanuel .
CONSIDER A SPOOL Also gaining traction among homeowners are spools . “ Since homeowners are looking for more amenities at home without the huge upkeep , cocktail pools or ‘ spools ’ have become very popular . You can use it as a pool in the hot summer months and then as a spa in the cooler
winter season — the best of both worlds ,” says Mary Jeffrey , a Realtor with Bennion Deville Homes in Palm Desert , CA who recently sold a home with a spool in Palm Springs . “ The upkeep is a fraction of a full-sized pool with a separate spa and accommodates smaller lots . Homeowners love it and it adds value to the home when it sells ,” she says .
PERFECTLY PERFECT FOR SMALL SPACES Kathy Roberts and her family moved from their longtime Los Angeles home with a large pool to a new construction modern home with a cocktail pool in a Palm Springs gated community . Roberts doesn ’ t miss her 60-foot pool , home to many birthday parties . “ These homes included a pool . You got to design the size , lounge seating and sunning area . We chose a cocktail pool where you can ’ t swim laps . It ’ s perfect for the size of our yard and we love to sit by it and enjoy a cocktail . We did add a waterfall to the design ,” she says .
