A cultural excursion to discover local history , heritage and culture : Kerry County Museum in Tralee and Blennerville Windmill in Dingle
On the 24th of September , the Erasmus + and school ’ s 1st Year students got a chance to attend a tour of the museum and exhibitions facilitated by Transition Year students from Killorglin Community College . Our tour started about 11:30 in the morning and lasted about two hours .
When arrived , we got divided into 2 smaller groups . One of them started the tour with visiting actual museum and learning history of Kerry , while the rest of us went downstairs to see a beautiful medieval exhibition .
As I was in the 2nd group , Iattended the „ Medieval Experience ” first . Right after getting down the floor , we got to see the difference . It was dark there , yet everything was visible . Firstly , the guides showed us some wearable clothes , which we could put on if we liked to and wear while exploring the exhibition . Then the actual tour started . Whole space was full of small structures presenting medieval streets , houses , markets and many more . We also got to see a lot of wax figures showing simple people doing everyday activities . It was truly gorgeous and atmospherical . After that , the other guide conducted us upstairs .
Next we went onto the Main Gallery . While being there , I felt like walking through a corridor of time , showing the history of the people of Kerry . We got to see a lot of priceless archaeological objects , impressive life-size dioramas and exquisitely crafted models . We also were shown the informative wall displays , narrating the story of Kerry ’ s people and landscape from the earliest times up to 20th Century . After that , we were introduced to what the „ Rose of Tralee ” is and shown some of the dresses , which the contestants were wearing on the Festival . We also got to see some pictures and names of winners of the event through the years .
